The most elusive of the large carnivores of the Carpathian Mountains, it is generally only possible to get a photograph like this in a zoo. Some three thousand Eurasian lynx are believed to be hiding and surviving in the dense forests that carpet the slopes of the Carpathians, preying largely on roe deer (espcially), red deer, wild boar, chamois, hares, marten, foxes, and various rodents.
